Chapter 940: The Advantage of Intelligence
Chapter 940: The Advantage of Intelligence
Xu Shuhan’s appearance here was naturally due to Yu Shiran… However, after Ling Mo did some sensing, he realized the zombie loli wasn’t actually nearby. At the same time, Xu Shuhan had already taken two steps forward and was now standing in front of Ling Mo, beginning to report softly.
“When you suddenly rushed off, the team members were all a bit confused. Ye Kai suggested going out to check the situation, but Mu Chen thought we shouldn’t act recklessly. Especially after you made that kind of move, he felt we should be even more cautious and prepared. Who knows, maybe you had discovered some urgent issue…”
At this point, Xu Shuhan seemed to glance up at Ling Mo through her mask. Standing this close, she could even clearly hear Ling Mo’s heartbeat… But Ling Mo’s expression remained completely focused, which made Xu Shuhan quietly exhale in relief, though she also felt a faint sense of disappointment…
Then again, even she wasn’t sure what exactly she was hoping for-was she waiting for Ling Mo to explain his discovery, or did she wish to see some other emotion flash across his face?
“They debated for a while before deciding to follow Mu Chen’s suggestion. Not long after that, I suddenly caught a familiar scent from someone similar to me…” Xu Shuhan let out a breath and skipped over her conversation with Yu Shiran as she continued, “Shiran said she wanted me to come out with her to stand guard in the vicinity. I had no choice but to find an excuse to run out of the building myself.”
For the timid Xu Shuhan, interacting with her own kind-let alone humans-was enough to utterly terrify her… She must not have looked much better when facing Yu Shiran earlier than she did just now…
“Thank you,” Ling Mo suddenly said.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable, Xu Shuhan averted her gaze. She said, “After that, we searched the area for a bit, and she actually did find a stranger. Shiran mentioned that the person seemed very strong and worried that if I followed her, we might be exposed, so she decided to track the person alone…”
“How reckless,” Ling Mo muttered, his tone laced with a hint of helplessness as he frowned slightly.
“I’m sorry. I came along because I wanted to help. She’s so young… Even though she’s a zombie, it’s still…” Xu Shuhan lowered her head as she spoke, clearly misunderstanding Ling Mo’s reaction.
Ling Mo couldn’t help but laugh as he said, “What are you talking about? Someone was bound to stay back and keep an eye on things. I’m talking about that idiot. She’s already exhausted, and if she has to fight someone, she’ll be starving in no time. She might even…” He suddenly fell silent for a moment before continuing, “Well, at least she’s still in the middle of tracking for now.”
“Can you sense the details?” Xu Shuhan asked urgently, assuming it was a psychic probe.
“I can, but it would easily alert the target. That would only put her in a worse situation. Don’t worry, if anything changes, I’ll respond accordingly. Besides, although that loli is a bit foolish, she’s still got the advantage of intelligence on her side. No matter how strong the others are, they’re at most at his level.” Ling Mo shook his head and gestured toward Tang Hao. “Aside from hunger, there shouldn’t be much of a problem.”
“Let me go! I’ll bite you to death!” Tang Hao struggled weakly for a moment, thinking angrily. Although he couldn’t make out what Xu Shuhan was saying, he could catch bits and pieces of what Ling Mo was saying. He hadn’t overheard any useful information but had learned that his ally was already being tracked-and to top it off, this damned Ling Mo was using him as a point of comparison!
However, all Tang Hao could do now was protest internally. In his current condition, even if Xiao Bai threw him on the ground, that alone could probably finish him off…
Fortunately, Ling Mo didn’t seem to pay him any mind. His gaze quickly shifted to the small building not far away.
From their current angle, only half the rooftop and a window were visible. But for zombies, that was already enough for “monitoring.” And with Xu Shuhan’s speed, if something really did happen, she could rush over within three seconds.
“What’s the situation here?” Ling Mo asked.
Xu Shuhan fiddled nervously with her fingers and replied, a little uncertainly, “That’s why I was waiting here for you.” She looked up at Ling Mo and said, “I feel like something’s not right in the area.” 𝙧àɴОꞖÈ𐌔
What surprised her, though, was that Ling Mo didn’t seem particularly shocked by her statement.
After nodding, he immediately turned to look at Tang Hao. Xiao Bai, ever cooperative, grabbed Tang Hao’s collar with its teeth, lifted him forward, and snorted through its nose.
As soon as Xiao Bai made this move, Xu Shuhan reacted as though she’d been stepped on. With a “whoosh,” she jumped back five or six meters, hiding far away…
“What kind of companions does Ling Mo even keep…” Xu Shuhan thought tearfully behind her mask.
“Looks like some of your allies have already started moving.” Ling Mo said to Tang Hao with a faint, mocking smile.
Tang Hao’s heart sank, and his face turned pale in an instant.
After a brief silence, he stammered, “I’ve already told you everything-everything I should and shouldn’t have said…”
“Xiao Bai, hold onto him tighter,” Ling Mo cut him off coldly.
“MeGu!”
Hearing Xiao Bai’s excited growl, Tang Hao collapsed entirely, his body going limp like a pile of wet cloth.
Watching from the side, Xu Shuhan couldn’t help but feel a little stunned. Just from their conversation, it seemed like they were about to do something incredibly dangerous… Tang Hao clearly didn’t want to go, but there was no way Ling Mo would just take his words at face value.
In short, no matter where they were going, Tang Hao, as their captive, was undoubtedly in for a rough time…
“Host Xu, you’re coming with me,” Ling Mo said, turning to her.
Caught off guard, Xu Shuhan hesitated and asked, “Shouldn’t I stay here to keep an eye on things?”
“Don’t worry. If this guy isn’t lying, we still have about two minutes left,” Ling Mo replied.
As he spoke, Ling Mo shot another glance at Tang Hao. The latter jolted in fear and hurriedly exclaimed, “I’m not lying! Everything I said is the truth!”
“We’ll see soon enough. Lead the way,” Ling Mo responded.
Xiao Bai obediently carried Tang Hao forward by the collar, and Tang Hao glanced reluctantly at the small building one last time. Finally, he sighed quietly in resignation.
“So close, and yet…”
In the brief moment when he turned his back completely to Ling Mo, the fear and despair in his eyes gave way to a flash of sinister cunning.
“This might be my chance after all…”
