Chapter 2510: Anomaly
Chapter 2510: Anomaly
“Master, we haven’t determined the victor in our battle. Why did you flee like a coward? If news of this gets out, you’ll become the world’s laughingstock.” The Monster Lord suddenly appeared in the distance, taunting the Lord of Slaughter as he swiftly approached.
“Bastard!” The Lord of Slaughter was infuriated. He wanted to step forward to confront the Monster Lord. He had been a conqueror for a good half of his life; it had been a long time since he last suffered such a grievance.
Salamay and Mojard quickly held him down. “Father (Master), you mustn’t fall for his provocation! You can always make a comeback in the future!”
The Lord of Slaughter took a deep breath. “Forget it. You went through so much trouble to find me. I can’t let your sacrifice be in vain.” He beckoned Zu An and the Saintess over. “Hurry up and enter the gate. It’ll close very soon.”
He grabbed his daughter’s hand and Mojard’s shoulder before charging into the light gate.
Zu An grabbed the Saintess’ hand and said, “Hug me tightly.”
The Saintess was confused, but she still did as she was told with a reddened face. Ah Zu, this is too much. Do we need to get affectionate in public?
Just as they entered the gate, the massive energy ball hurled by the Monster Lord arrived and blasted the lake. Unfortunately, the gate had already disappeared by then.
The Shadow Monster King and the other Monster Generals arrived a second too late. Upon learning what had just happened, their faces darkened. They asked, “Master, what should we do?”
They were beginning to regret their decision. Despite having prepared such an elaborate trap, the Lord of Slaughter had still escaped from their encirclement. If the latter recovered and made a comeback, they would be in grave danger. They hadn’t forgotten how brutal the Lord of Slaughter had been over the years.
The only one who was in a celebratory mood was the War Priest. He had made a killing by acquiring a droplet of the legendary Oblivion River Water.
The Monster Lord could guess what the Monster Generals were thinking. “What are you panicking for? We’ll start by encircling the Imperial Tomb, then we'll take this time to purge that old thing’s loyal subordinates. Even if he escapes, what can he do alone?”
“But that’s the Celestial Court! What if that old thing awakens his bloodline power inside? By then, we might not be a match for him even if we join forces,” the Shadowhorror Devil said, gulping in fear.
The others shared the same worry. The Celestial Court was the Monster World’s most elusive legend. It was the dream of every monster, but it was a pity they'd missed this golden opportunity.
“How can a person grow stronger that easily? Don’t worry, everything is still within my grasp,” the Monster Lord said with a confident sneer.
The Monster Generals exchanged looks. They initially thought that the Monster Lord was saying those words to console them, but his confident expression made them wonder if he had a trump card that they didn’t know about.
...
Right after Zu An and the Saintess passed through the light gate, it vanished. The Monster Lord’s howl was vaguely audible behind them.
The Saintess released Zu An’s waist, only to realize they were in the middle of a large body of water. There was nowhere for her to step on, causing her to plummet. She was horrified. She had never felt so helpless before.
However, a warm hand grabbed her in time, keeping her from plummeting deeper. The water around her parted, creating a bubble-like space.
Zu An chuckled. “I told you to hold me because there’s something weird about the water here.”
He'd remembered that what was on the other side of the lake was the legendary Weak Water, which was water that offered so little resistance that not even a feather would float in it. It was fortunate that the powerful Fiend Emperor had been with them, or else he, Yan Xuehen, Yun Jianyue, and Yu Yanluo would have drowned. Recalling the past brought a smile to his face. How I wish to return and see them again...
Just then, he sensed something was off. He lowered his head and saw the Saintess’ face was pale, and she was shivering a lot. He asked anxiously, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m afraid of water,” the Saintess replied with a strained smile.
Zu An embraced her tightly. He patted her shoulder while consoling her. “Don’t worry, I have the power to control water now. I won’t let any water near you.”
The Saintess buried her head in his chest. It might have been his words or his warm embrace, but her shivering reduced.
Zu An quickly ascended through the water together with her. In the past, he had been completely helpless against the Weak Water, but the growth in his cultivation and the water control ability he'd acquired from fusing the Crown of the Ocean Deity and Hundredwarble allowed him to deal with the Weak Water with ease.
When he reached shore, he was surprised to find that the Lord of Slaughter and the others weren’t there. He searched the shore, but they were nowhere to be seen. He eventually turned his gaze back to the Weak Water. Did they drown in there?
He quickly rejected that thought. The Lord of Slaughter would no doubt be strong enough to overcome the Weak Water, even if he was weakened. Besides, he had Mojard and Salamay to help him.
“We might have been teleported to different places,” the Saintess said. Now that she was out of water, her complexion recovered. She sat on a stone next to the shore. The cold wind tugged at her clothes and left her hair unkempt, making her look a little pitiful.
Now that he had grasped the secrets of spatial transformations, Zu An knew her words made sense. Given that they had entered the light gate at different times, it wouldn’t be surprising for them to have been teleported to different locations. The last time he came here, he and the others had been inside the Fiend Emperor’s sleeves, which was why they were teleported to the same destination.
“What a pity. I wanted to get more information from Salamay.” Zu An sighed. He was curious how Salamay had escaped, and how Suolun Shi had been reduced from a warden to a prisoner.
“Don’t worry. Now that we're allies, she won’t hurt the princess. They still need our help to deal with the Monster Lord,” the Saintess consoled him.
“Let’s hope that’s the case.” Seeing that the Lord of Slaughter wasn’t here, Zu An grabbed the Saintess’ hand and led her deeper in.
Along the way, he passed by familiar sights, such as the giant stone tortoise sculpture and the towering Feather Mountain. What surprised him, however, was the absence of the stone tablet carved with the words ‘Feather Abyss’.
He initially didn’t think much of it, but as he ventured deeper into Feather Mountain, his expression slowly turned grim. Why isn’t there resentment that's so intense it's almost corporeal?
Back when the Fiend Emperor forced him, Yan Xuehen, and the others to lead the way, they had begun sprouting black scales under the effects of the resentment. If they hadn’t taken turns holding onto Yu Yanluo’s Lord Sui’s Pearl, they would have become a part of the resentment too.
“What’s wrong?” The Saintess noticed something amiss with Zu An’s expression.
Zu An didn’t reply. He grabbed her hand and began rushing up to the mountain peak. With his current cultivation, the aerial monsters no longer posed a threat to him. Soon, they arrived at the peak.
Zu An was stunned. Where’s the Feather Mountain Spring Water?
